Cycle Time Management
|
A process model that emphasizes very heavily
the advantages of reducing the amount of time required to get something
accomplished.

Cycle Time
|
The time interval from when a need is identified
to the time when that need is satisfied. For NPD, this includes the entire
process from identifying the opportunity thru commercialization.

Action in Progress
(AIP)
|
All those activities which an organization
is working on at any given time.
|

First Pass Yield
|
A measure of those output units that are
completed acceptably on the first attempt without requiring remedial action
(rework).
In cycle time management of product development 'units' have been
defined as new products, stages completed, etc.

Staffing to Entitlement
|
A CTM principle that attempts to assign
resources to projects to minimize cycle time of current activities. This
usually means more resources, but in any case, 'the right' resources.

Barrier
|
Any obstacle or impediment that prevents
or inhibits a process from being completed on the timetime anticipated.
|
|
| |
Cultural Barrier
|
A barrier that typically effects a particular
activity wherever it occurs in an organization because it is caused by behaviors
or thinking that are rooted in the organizational culture. Because organizational
cultures are difficult change, these barriers are difficult to overcome.

Process Barrier
|
A barrier that is caused by inefficiencies
or imprecision in the business process.
|
|
| |
Knowledge Barrier
|
A barrier that results from lack of knowledge,
skills, experience or training about the either the work process or the
subject of the work. Sometimes called a 'subject matter' barrier, these
are presumed to be the easiest barriers to overcome.
